UPDATED FOR 2019

We live in WD18 and have tried a few baby and toddler activities nearby and a little further afield. Here’s a rundown of the things we’ve tried so far.

Mondays, St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, toddler group

Every Monday, even in school holidays (except bank holidays), St. Michael and All Angels’ Church run a toddler group between 10-11.30am. It’s a great indoor space with playtime, a “service” (involving songs, a prayer and a story) and a snack.

Tuesdays, St. Mary’s Church, toddler group

When I used to have Tuesdays off, I used to go to this toddler group.  It runs 9.30-11.30am and has a large space with lots of toys and painting every week.

Wednesdays, West Watford Community Association, toddler group

We went to a session on a Wednesday morning and they were very friendly. Our eldest son was two and a half when we went and I’d say it was aimed at kids who were slightly younger.

Wednesdays, The Hub in Cassiobury Park, Stay and Play

This group runs on some Wednesday mornings in The Hub, next to Daisy’s in Cassiobury Park. There are a range of toys to play with, as well as some craft activities to do.

Wednesdays, The Barn, Read and Rhyme

This session is run by Home-Start and takes place at 1.30-3pm in The Barn, opposite the Palace Theatre. It’s a play session followed by songs.

Thursdays, Watford Central Library, Baby Rhyme Time

Baby Rhyme Time is a song session in the children’s bit of the library that takes place from 2.15-2.45pm. This session currently combines well with Stroller Strength run by Mums of Steel; it’s a drop-in session that takes place in Cassiobury Park at 1pm.

Fridays, Hartbeeps, Happy House session

We were lucky to get a spot in the Happy House Friday morning session for a couple of terms and enjoyed our sessions with Jeanette. They involve singing, role-plays and dressing up – lots of fun!

Fridays, Dolphina Gymnastics, drop-in and ‘Me and my shadow’ sessions

Tucked away on an industrial estate near Watford North train station is Dolphina Gymnastics. They run a drop-in session on Friday mornings. Our son loves bombing around the equipment and running up and down the long trampoline!

Fridays, St. James Road Baptist Church, toddler group

The St. James Road Baptist Church run a toddler group on Monday and Friday mornings, during term time and we’ve been along to a Friday session. It’s a great space as it has four different areas for the kids to use: the main hall, a side room with train tracks and books, a painting room and an outdoor space (with covered area) – plenty of variety to keep them occupied!

Fridays, Croxley Green Library, Toddler Tales

This is a fab session to combine with a trip to Barton Way playground which is a very short walk away. It takes place at 2.15-2.45pm and involves stories and colouring in.
