Christmas at Stockwood (17/12/17)

Our plans changed today and we were looking for a last minute rainy day activity and decided to visit Stockwood Discovery Centre’s festive event. We’re usually a bit wary of “winter wonderland” themed events thinking they’ll be rammed and overpriced but arriving at 3pm on a Sunday, Stockwood’s Christmas themed afternoon was neither of these things.

We’ve been to Stockwood Discovery Centre a couple of times before and it’s one of our favourite museums in the area. For £5 per child (adults are free) you get three tokens to exchange for three different activities and a bubble disco! The first activity we tried was decorating a gingerbread man, followed by the bubble disco.

Bubble disco

The bubble disco was pretty cool with two machines at either end spewing out lots of bubbles for the excited kids to pop. Our son loved this. We dragged him away so we could try the remaining two token activities before the event closed at 4pm.

Next up was the snowboarding activity where everyone took it in turns to fall off theatrically. The room it was in was quite atmospheric with loads of disco balls (corporate Christmas drinks sprung to mind) and other wintery decorations.

Our final token activity was the snow dome where we frantically threw wool snowballs at each other, well we actually ganged up on daddy who just caught them all! It was so much fun!

After that, we sadly had to head home as it was closing. We could easily have stayed longer if we had arrived earlier. In each pack was a letter to Santa you could write, as well as some Christmas colouring in and our son would have loved another go in the bubble disco I’m sure! There was also a Santa’s Grotto which we skipped (it’s another £5). We felt there were plenty of things to do to fill a whole afternoon.

Its remaining dates are Thursday 21st to Saturday 23rd and if you’re looking for a Christmassy themed activity, we’d definitely recommend!
