Great to see a bookshop opening in Watford: Waterstones was doing a roaring trade in its new High Street location (opposite the Intu entrance) when we visited at the weekend. The shop left the town in 2012, and its new incarnation reflects the business’s new, progressive approach to bookselling: giving individual stores more room to be creative with their title choices and displays, and to reflect local interests.

The building is long and narrow, making it a bit tricky with a buggy (the children’s section is at the back), though staff were very friendly and there was face painting and storytelling as part of the official opening on the day we visited.

It’s a shame there’s no café, but there’s always the excellent Ocean Bells (opposite) to visit after you’ve made your purchases!
